Well, I don't feel so bad now. I went to alt.3d and commented about the
system mentioned in this thread. Someone wrote back that this is indeed
something different. The description is somewhat misleading and the original
author didn't really seem aware of finer details.

Supposedly this new system uses motion in a video stream to establish
difference or depth information for layers in the scenes. These are
processed into a left and right version, on the fly, and presented as
alternate fields for viewing with LCD goggles. It does depend on motion for
the 3D to be present but not in the same sense as with the Pulfrich effect.
Supposedly it is intended as a 3D conversion for ordinary 2D material, not
for viewing already 3D content. Sounds pretty interesting anyway. There is
valid depth information available from some motion so why not use it?
