I believe what you are looking for is the "reading glasses in front of the
lenses" technique. I seem to recall (and those who've done this please
comment too) that reading glass lenses can be used to perform Macro
Realist. In fact, there's been (again if I recall correctly) several
tables published in previous digests telling how to determine the focal
length using reading glasses as close-up lenses.
However, not having a Realist, I'll probably use my SLR w/ 28mm macro & a
slide bar. There's a lot of neat ice formations in our yard today.
