Ron

First, let me set aside my vendor's hat, and put on my moderator's hat ;)

Your posting is good, and highlights a grey area we as moderators discussed
at some length. It's difficult to formulate an exact policy, but my
understanding of what was agreed on is:

---Informational--- messages should still go to photo-3d. When a posting
crosses the hard-to-distinguish line between purely informational and
product ---promotion---, it should go to sell-3d.

Obviously, we'll do some sorting out of this as time goes on. If a
vendor, for example, constantly pushes the envelope in photo-3d,
they'll be gently (at first ;) reminded of the -opportunity- they
have to promote themselves on sell-3d.

Sell-3d was created to have a legitimate place for such things as
auction lists (Note that it is NOT the place to conduct bidding!),
commercial advertising. Up till now we didn't have a place for those
(though some did take place on photo-3d). as well as a place for
people to buy and sell personal items. Hopefully it will reduce
a little of the loading on photo-3d, while providing a neat marketplace
for all of us.

BTW - Sell-3d has the same "moderators" list as photo-3d:
John B, myself, Yiing Lin, and Bob Wier. Though we do cover for each
other, I generally handle subscription requests, Yiing handles unsubscribes
due to bounces, John B usually handles digest requests, monitors the
"off-topic" issues and other stuff, and Bob handles listserv issues.
Not that you need to know this - just email to

  mailto:3d-moderators@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

if you have problems. Just thought it might be of interest.

Joel.
