Eric, it was you who made this point.  Dennis agreed and added:

Thus Dennis' contribution is that the FL is a design choice to match
exactly the "normal" length.  My contribution is that the "normal"
length is a convention not a mathematical quantity.  The 2.5 mm difference
in FL is very small to justify anything.

Regarding resolution, I don't care what the theory is or should be, I can 
only report what I see.  And I saw that the Realist is as good as the 
Belplasca at the edges, under my normal shooting conditions.
