Konica FT-1 cables

A friend of mine with dual Konica FT-1 cameras that are electronically
linked is having a continual problem with failure of the spliced cables--
they seem to work for a month or so, then stop, probably due to wires
breaking inside. He's had cables made by several sources, and they all
fail in about the same amount of time. 

I haven't looked at the setup yet, but before I do, does anyone know of a
reliable way to join Konica FT-1 cameras?

And while we're on the subject, does anyone have a recommended way to
electronically link Minolta X-700 cameras?
