"chatter/clutter" and "true believers"

I am a "true believer" and would like to respond when questions 
in my areas of interest are being asked/discussed.  That's why
I subscribe to photo-3d.

Exactly how to you define "chatter/clutter" and what does "vote 
for austerity" mean?  Either the list is open and we "chat" (yes, 
that's what lists are for) or it is shut down and we get "real 
work" done! ;)  

I don't understand why the volume is a problem when no one is
forcing anybody else to read this material.  We have documented 
cases of people that turned from "beginners" to "believers" thanks
to photo-3d's 24 hour chat-line.
