Photo-3d & Ted Papoulas
- From: P3D Dr. George A. Themelis <fj834@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx>
- Subject: Photo-3d & Ted Papoulas

I would like to address John B.'s concerns that many well-known names in 3d
are dropping photo-3d because of mail volume. IMO, those who do that, most
probably never posted anything here and did not even read it.
In the few years I've been here I have learned an incredible amount of
information and made countless contacts and new friends. Just a small
sample from the past few months, I have learned about the extend of the
"Realist leak" problem and how to fix it, about projector overheating
problems, lenses, light bulbs. Where else can you find the info in Oliver
Dean's posting about film bases rotating polarization? Without photo-3d I
would not have my Realist 7P now!!! I have read product reviews, flash
news. Through photo-3d I discovered the Detroit club. When non-photo-3d
people express surprise that I know so much, I am proud to say "I read it
in photo-3d!!!"
To those who are worried about the volume of mail and lack of brevity, this
is a hobby, not a profession, and it is based on "discussions" not
articles. More structured information is found in Stereo World. In the
last issue under "ABC 3-D" I read how associate editor Dean Jacobowitz (a
friend of mine who has refused to get "connected") contacted the network
about their 3d anaglyph pictures in their web page and was surprised to
learn that the 3d pictures were actually converted from flat pictures.
"The person who did the conversions, an NSA member, urged the network to
use actual stereographs and even offered to take them, but ABC wasn't
interested."
If Dean was following photo-3d, he would have known that this "person" is
no other than HIS OWN friend, and photo-3d member, Ted Papoulas, the "3-d
stamp guy" (what happened to him? I hope he did not drop because of the
photo-3d volume!!!). Dean knows Ted from the Gamma folio of SSA. This
subject was discussed here, Ted's work was admired and Ted offered his own
perspective from this work.
In the past I have emphasized that there is 3d life beyond photo-3d with
experienced people not being here because they don't have computers or
email. For those who can be here but choose not too, and those who were
here but dropped out, I can only repeat Gabriel's famous last words: "Their
loss." And I believe it!
