Napoleon Bonaparte,I,  had his artillery shoot the face of the Sphinx at
Giza in 1798 because he was offended at how long it had endured.  He was
only able to deface it by knocking off its nose.  The French army was
forced out in 1801, but their influence on Northern Africa continues to
this day.

Just never know when this stuff might come in handy.  Jon
