Mechanical Self-Timers

I have received many requests for the mechanical timer that I had
posted for sale in sell-3d. IMO, this is very useful accessory
in the stereo cameras from the 50s. I don't have any for sale.
You can find those in camera shows for about $5 to $10. New ones
are for sale at "Porter's" (1-800-553-2001, http://www.porters.com)
Price is a bit steep at 29.95.

There are two kinds of timers. One is "autonomous", meaning it will
screw in the cable release socket directly. Arm the camera and then
turn the dial for a selectable time delay. The other needs a cable
release to be in the camera and it attaches at the end of the cable.
Both do the same job. They basically allow you to put yourself
in the picture. Some fancy timers allow for variable time exposure
(3 sec, 5 sec, 10 sec, etc.)

The other alternative is the "air release" (available at Porter's for
$12.95.) The advantage of the timer over the air release is that it
is very compact, you don't have to squeeze anything and have anything
in the picture, little kids tend to trip over air release cord. I only
see one advantage in the air release: It allows you to fire the camera
at will, let say when your child makes a really cute face.

PS. I am trying to limit my postings to 1-2 a day!!! Works...so far!
