According to a book I recently read, the sphinx's nose was broken off
around AD 1300 by Saim-el-Dahr, an Islamic militant who considered the
pagan idol blasphemous, and not by Napoleon out of being convinced its
smile mocked him.

If someone can come up with a 3d view of sphinx with nose, I'll make like
the sphinx & won't say another word on the matter :^)
