Talking Viewmaster question

Could someone please explain to me something about the old talking
View-Master viewers. I ran across a couple of these that apparently
need some work. After installing fresh batteries and inserting a 
talking reel that I know works, and press the "sound bar" I get this
voice counting out numbers. The first talking VM that I got that on
I more or less shrugged it off. This last weekend, I found one at an
estate sale and after bringing it home and putting batteries in it, I 
got that same voice counting out numbers. If anyone could explain this
it would at least satisfy my curiosity.
