In order to answer your question I need to know the type (rating) of
the bulbs you used. The proper bulbs should be CZX 500 Watt. They
are rated 120 Volt, 25 hours. Is it possible that you used the wrong
bulbs (lower voltage rating)? I have used Wiko bulbs with no problem
and never had a problem with faulty projector circuit (it is difficult
for me to think of a problem that will blow the bulbs.)

Reel 3-D's price for $36 for a pair is among the best I have seen.
The other option is camera shows, etc. where you can sometimes find
these bulbs for $5-$10 each.
As discussed in earlier digests, there are halogen bulbs available as
the proper replacement for these bulbs, so you do not need to mess
up with the projector.
>Assuming the projector is working properly, how much is it worth?
$200 to $300 is a fair price range for a projector complete in case
and with 5" lenses (4" bring a bit more).
