imax 3D questions

Morris' questions about the operation of the IMAX LCD system are
interesting ones. Not knowing too much about the system, I'd assume two
images are screened sequentially within each 1/24 second (24 fps?), each
image being on the screen for 1/48 second. (Maybe it's only 1/12 second,
with each image being on for 1/24 second.) In any case, I'd think there
would be some problems with retention and/or flickering, especially in
scenes with movement.

Someone mentioned (on this list?) that the Sony/IMAX headsets contained
both LCD blinkers *and* circular polarizers, with polarizers used as a
back-up system. Does anyone recall if this is true?
