Artec "Scan-ROM" scanner?
- From: P3D Morris M. Keesan <keesan@xxxxxxxxxxxxx>
- Subject: Artec "Scan-ROM" scanner?
- Date: Thu, 23 Jan 1997 23:24:11 -0500
I've recently come across, in a mail-order catalog, a scanner manufactured
by Artec, called the "Scan-ROM". I then found the web page maintained by
the manufacturer, but don't have the URL here with me on this computer --
I'll post it later, after I get back from vacation, if I can find it and if
there's interest. The product seems to be exactly what I've been looking
for in cost and features. Instead of an expensive flatbed scanner with an
even more expensive transparency adapter which can't handle stereo mounts,
this scanner has a glass tray (drawer) which takes items up to 4" x 6", and
has two light sources so that it can scan either opaque or transparent
items, e.g. prints or slides. This should allow it to scan a stereo pair in
the mount, and by making two scan passes, once with front lighting and once
with back lighting, should allow easy iage processing to produce an image of
the slides in their mount.
At roughly US$250, this is almost worth trying unseen and untested, but I'd
like to know whether anyone on the list has ever seen one of these, or has
any samples of scanned images, or opinions about the quality of this product
or any others from the same manufacturer.
