RE: Copying old stereo to new...

Dan Shelley writes about digital reproduction "Long live digital Stereo!"
of stereo views that has similar advantages to reproducing these views
in slide film.

I agree that digital reproduction is a good storage method with many
image-altering possiblities. However, there are a few drawbacks/
questions:

* Is the resolution of the original preserved as well as when copying
  on film?

* Is digital storage as portable as film? When I mentioned going to
Greece and carrying a small viewer and 100 slides in a small box,
trying to locate the different sites photographed a century ago,
I don't think I could have done that (viewing them in-situ) with
  digitally stored pictures.

* Can a group of people enjoy the same picture at the same time using
only one projection device, as in stereo projection?

I am sure that these questions/problems are just a matter of the
technology catching up, but, at the present time, film seems to
have an advantage over digital storage, in these areas (resolution,
portablity, multiple viewing)
