Shooting people, Scala, Realist Focusing

Hello again,
Got another roll of Scala back and am delighted once again with the
results. Even on a couple of clearly overexposed shots, the blacks were
_black_, the greys smooth and everything nice and crisp (K25 it aint,
however.)
The recent discussion emboldened me, and for the first time I shot
strangers. Often, I've wanted to get people in a shot to add a sense of
scale, so I'd shoot from behind. This time, I just shot. People can't
really tell what you're shooting at. Nobody said a word.
But here's the thing. Is my realist broken, does it have inferior lenses,
or am I just a bad photographer? One problem I have consistently is not
standing still. Fine. The shot is trashed and it's my fault. However,
since I switched cameras about 6 months ago, from an early Serial Number
Ilex Paragon 3.5 to a later, Double-Exp. David White 3.5. I've been
convinced that my shots range from the not sharp at all to the not sharp
enough. Now, one theory I have is that the rangefinder is not accurate.
If I overcompensate for the near depth-of-field (near objects seem the most
out of focus) will things in the far distance then become out of focus? How
do I test for focusing?
