|I'm not "up" on 3-D TV, but there was an interesting announcement in
|the Salt Lake Tribune this morning that some may want to see. You
|can see it at http://www.sltrib.com/97/FEB/03/ttm/20275424.htm. The
|headline reads "S.L. COMPANY GIVES BIRTH TO NEXT GENERATION OF 3-D",
|with the subheadline, "A Salt Lake Company is introducing a new
|generation of 3-D viewing technology"
|
|The article deals with a presentation made at a trade show, I believe
|in Las Vegas, and it includes a photo of a man wearing LCD goggles.

That's pretty interesting. (was at the Winter CES in Las Vegas).
It sounds like a pretty standard LCD type system EXCEPT that they
have a real-time processor which magnifies a mono signal every other
frame. The effect is that you are looking at a scene from two different
positions along the Z axis, which gives some apparent depth.
I've never tried that right offhand.
They do point out it is a stopgap measure until real stereo program
material emerges (hey Ray!). They also say (suprisingly enough) that the big
stereo movie period was late 70's - early 80's (Jaws 3D, etc). Looks
like some of us whom remember the 50's are put out to pasture!
