Interesting. I wonder if it's related to the risk of having too much
disparity in the hyper images (which of course is also a risk with macros
but doesn't seem to crop up as often)? Or perhaps the presence of
perspective distortions? It sounds like people are more careful about
keeping the camera axes parallel & getting an accurate stereo base when
shooting macros...
