A few years ago when I was fooling around with making stained-glass
windows, I came across an etching compound. It seems like it was
fairly inexpensive. You rubbed or brushed it on the glass, let it
sit for a while, and washed it off. When you were done, the surface
of the glass was frosty. I don't know if this would work in your
situation or if the etching would be uniform enough for your purposes
but it might be worth a try. The product was called ETCHING FROST
and it was distributed by:
Ed Hoy's International
1620 Frontenac Road
Naperville, Ill 60563-1762
(800) 323-5668
I called them this morning and they were only too happy to give me
the name and phone number of a local supplier.
