The tours used to be free.  I may be mistaken, but I don't think they
are still free.  I recall hearing that the NASA visitor center is now
operated like (or by) Disney.  It is supposed to be a much "improved"
experience, which I take to mean more active and entertaining.  Whether
it is still as educational, I don't know.  I was only there once, when
it was free, (and when I knew nothing about stereo photography.)  Back
then you could wander around some outdoor displays of rockets which are
fun to photograph if you are into rockets.  I don't know if you have the
same freedom to do that now.
