Realists and synch

George (our own Dr T) mentions that the lever between the lenses is
sometimes amiss, and one lens will fire correctly, but one does not
synchronize.

There is an even more elusive problem with the Realists...which I try
to check before blaming anything else. Set the aperature fully open, and
the shutter on "T" and fire it...it'll remain open. Now turn the camera
on its left side and tap it, while looking through the back. Now on its
right side and tap it.
As you look throught he lenses, the shutter blades must remain open
and out of view throughout. If you notice the blades sliding down when
the camera's tilted to the right or left, the blades are worn (actually
the blade pin holes), and will tend to unevenly expose the images, and
often the synch will be off.

This sounds complicated, but it can be checked in a couple of
seconds, and if anyone sees me at the BOSTON show--if I can make it up,
I'll be glad to demonstrate the checking procedure.

                 Harry
