>In real life, Paul was a world-renowned expert in this area, and
>his show is a light-hearted gem from the master.
I had a "valve problem" at work and a coworker gave me this paper to learn
everything there is to be known about valves. To my surprise, the author
was Paul Wing from MA. I could not believe that this could be THE Paul
Wing. The article was written some 20 years ago and the picture did not
resemble the Paul I knew.
I wrote Paul a letter and asked him about it. Sure enough, this valve
expert was THE Paul Wing. It is nice to see that great men manage to have
"double careers". In his letter Paul mentioned this 3d show that he gave in
an audience of half-drunk engineers and sales people. He commissioned
Ted Lambert (see previous mention in pseudo stereo) to make some "title"
slides. He sent me a great one. A small figure (teacher) was pointing to a
blackboard where a butterfly was pinned. This slide was introducing the
"butterfly valve".
I wish I could come and see the show in Boston!
One a different note, I am planning 3d talk on the scientific and
engineering applications of stereo imaging, with emphasis on materials
science and metallurgical engineering. I am looking for ideas and images
in this area. Any contributions are greatly appreciated!
