Paul! We've discussed this many times! There is no way you can mis-hold a
camera to get misaligned images. Even with a 90 degrees rotation the chips
should be perfectly aligned (the image of course will be roated by 90
degrees)
This alignment problem that you describe can be corrected by aligning the
lenses. It is a common problem in stereo cameras. Ron Zakowski fixed my
2.8. How this is done depends on the specific camera I would guess. One
lens must be sitting sligtly higher/lower than the other and there must be
a way to adjust his vertical positioning.
I am assuming that the problem is just vertical misalignment of the lenses
and not a difference in focal length. If the focal lengths are different
then you have a case where the tops of the images are aligned while the
bottoms are not (or the other way around) because the two images have a
different size. This is a more serious problem than simple vertical
offset. There was some talk in the past that even this can be corrected.
