Medium format stereo is one of the best kept secrets in 3D. As far as
grainless-lifelike views, ya just can't beat it.
Medium Format was actually the standard in Europe from about 1900 to 1940,
and there are a few good French and German cameras from the era. The
problems is they usually had uncoated lenses and took plate film instead of
rollfilm. The Rolliedescope(?) was the best of these, but the price lately
has gone through the roof.
Most of us MF Stereo users have either modified older cameras or made new
ones. A modification can range from a simple twinning to a full-blown new
camera. My webpage has a few as well as links to others.
The viewer is usually the biggest problem. Other there were plenty made,
most of them do not conform to modern standards. Again, most of us have our
own blueprints for building one which we would be happy to share.
Greg Erker, Joel Alpers, Steven Spicer, Eric Goldstein, Alan Lewis and
Stephen Kearney are just a few of the MF Stereo Enthusiasts we have on this
list.
Welcome aboard!
