Can't help you there myself, but maybe you or someone else can help me.
Regarding the ni-cads, I have always preffered using these in most
assorted types of equipment, from toys to electronic equipment.

The problem is that quite a few of them warn not to use ni-cads. Now
I always considered this to be a plot from the non ni-cad manufacterers
to sell more batteries. ;-) But seriously on my Vivitar 2800 flash it
specifically mentions that if one takes four consecutive flashes, it
good blow the electronics. I guess this is because of the higher current
capacity of the ni-cads being able to recharge them much quicker thus 
not being able to disipate the heat generated. Is this true or can I
still keep on using ni-cads and thus saving a few pennies and saving
the world from more trash in the garbage dumps???
