Well, I went to Egypt for the 14th (or was it 15th?) time in January,
and I had much the same sentiments as you.
In the end, I did take my cameras (Belplasca, Custom Realist, FED, a
pair of electrically synched Minoltas for hypers and an Olympus OM4. I
used them ALL in the first five days, when I was cruising on Lake Nasser
- a trip I hadn't done before.
The reason I used all of the stereo cameras was because I took them as
back-ups - and neeeded them! Ever dismantled a Belplasca, whilst
cruising on the Nile? Fun, but successful.
After the first five days I settled down in Luxor for a week, and took
virtually no pictures!
Best of both worlds, I think - and VERY relaxing!

RE: Chuck Field says he fiddled with his Realist and almost missed
the atmosphere of London etc. Considers leaving his camera home next
time. I suppose that is a legitimate viewpoint, as it is with couples
who are welded together and would never let a spouse out of sight.
For myself, if I didn't have my cameras including a Realist or other
3d, I wouldn't even GO! I am easily bent out of shape by being denied
entrance if I have a camera too! e.g. Museum with King "Tut"
artifacts on tour. So I guess I could say that photography has been
so much of my personality that I am naked without it. BobH
And I thought that I should just add that the British Museum is totally
free and easy about handheld cameras - with or without flash. No tripods
without written permission, though.
When are you coming to London? We had our monthly Stereoscopic Society
meeting this afternoon. Maybe you'll be in town for the next one?
