Re: terminology

OK, I am convinced that John Robert's X-700 system is a real stereo
camera since he put so much work into designing it and building it.

The question now is if my X-700 system is a real stereo camera or
not. I did not do anywhere near as much work in planning and
designing as John did. I just slapped two cameras together in a
commercial bar and connected them with spliced commercial cable
releases. Grabbed the first pair of lenses I found and started
shooting. Do I have a real stereo camera or not?

Going one step further, a single camera is capable of taking
very interesting stereos like hyperstereos from planes or macro
stereos in a slide bar. Is the single camera and slide bar combo
a stereo camera or not? What is the definition of the stereo
camera?

Regardless of terminology, the fact remains that carrying and
using a 50s stereo camera (e.g. Realist) is much more convenient
and less frustrating than carrying and using the 5 pounder X-700s.
The Realist et al. is a general purpose stereo camera while the
X-700 rig is a specialty stereo camera system.
