anaglyph tips?

Hi all,

Once more I dip into the 3D well of knowledge.  I asked earlier about 
producing anaglyph posters and was given a wealth of info.  My 
question this time is twofold:  Can Realist format slides be scanned in 
their mounts or do they have to be remounted in 2 x 2s?  And, more 
importantly, is there a low cost alternative to Adobe Photoshop for 
turning the stereo pairs into anaglyphs?
