Pot metal

->zinc, others aren't so sure. I've had to throw out several tire pumps
->because the metal tab on the nozzle snaps off when I try to fasten

->seems to occur with age. I had assumed the parts were made of cast
->zinc. 

I believe it's an alloy of aluminium and zinc. It certainly has become
that for cameras from the 60s & 70s. The melting point is higher than
zinc on its own, and it can be soldered with care and special aluminium
solders...
