Yesterday the Stereo Club of Southern California had their first outing
of 1997 to the UCR/California Museum of Photography. Thanks to Lincoln
Kamm, our outings director. With their vast collection, starting with
the 350,000 piece Keystone-Mast collection to bays and bays overflowing
with almost every type camera imaginable, in three hours we could only
see the smallest amount of it. They continue to work on adding items to
their website-http://www.cmp.ucr.edu/
And several anaglyphs up at-http:/www.cmp.ucr.edu/collections/km/stereo/
In a showcase outside the collections room, they had several military
type cameras that looked like guns. I believe these were still out from
their show last year-In Our Sights: Artists Look At Guns. I would not
want to go into East Los Angeles, because they might be mistaken for
guns. These change the whole meaning of 'photo shoot'. They did not
have any stereo cameras in this case. There was one hugh camera, which
required 70mm film. Member, Abe Perlstein said it looked like a camera
on steroids. Given a choice between that camera and a realist as a
weapon...I would take it!
