***** While I recommend Paint Shop Pro for some things, it is sadly lacking
in basic image tools, specifically selection options. Worse than that they
degraded their previously existing tools in their latest version. Unforgivable.

A better low cost alternative to Photo Shop, which is surprisingly lacking
in intuitive ergonomic usability, might be a program from Ulead called Photo
Impact. It has FAR better tools than Paint Shop Pro and includes a bunch of
web utilities. It's biggest drawback is a lack of plug-in support.

My favorite continues to be PhotoStyler 2.0 SE, which unfortunately is
defunct thanks to Adobe wanting it out of the way of their clunky PhotoShop.
They bought Aldus and put the best and most refined graphics tools on the
shelf so there wouldn't be any significant competition for their own stuff.
Truly a disaster to the artistic/photographic community in general.

I sometimes get the feeling while using PhotoStyler, that the designers had
3D operations in the back of their mind while designing their tools. They
work smoothly and intuitively. Options in the program are comprehensive
enough that doing 3D becomes easy. There is a completely opposite reaction
to 80% of anything in PhotoShop. It's writers didn't even have basics like
intuitive ease of use in mind. Really sad for a program considered to be
the *standard*.
