Boy, or was that girl! So far the response to a new newsgroup dealing
with stereo pictures hasn't gone over too well here on P3D. The comments
made here so far are valid up to a point. The scums of the earth start
taking over these newsgroups when people vacate them for lack of interest.
Since nobody has so far shown interest in this group, the get quick
rich schemers and other fruitcakes will rule. If you check the newsgroups
that have active participation, most are well behaved.
No doubt there will be stuff improperly uploaded. Haven't seen any yet
because I have just started monitoring this group. The stuff I have seen
so far have been as single files but that's because the only pics I saw
there was the stuff I uploaded! :-) I did see the get quick rich schemes
that Marvin mentioned but am still thinking if I should try them. ;-)
If everybody here sends me a buck will report back to P3D if it works. ;-)
I did get a reply by someone that mistakenly congratulated me for starting
this group from one of my postings to that group. I replied to them that
I DIDN'T start it but that I hope it succeeds also. Here is what they
originally commented.
>I just found your site and am happy you started it. I been doing stereo
>photgraphy for several years and will try and post some images here soon.
>The one thing this site lacks is some good images. The ones I've seen are
>boring and of little interest I E a bicycle, a cat, a bush. How about
>images of a car show, or from an airplane, X ray's ,or some pin-up girls.
>Anything !
>
>Thanks, keep it going...... :- )
So it looks like there is a glimmer ofhope for this small spot on the Internet.
Lastly Larry mentions that he tried contacting John Elson. I tried also
and got back "user unknown". But there are two email address for him.
3dham@xxxxxxx returned "user unknown". The other email adress was
successful and am waiting for a response from him. The email address
was 3dham@xxxxxxxxxxxx
Larry also writes:
>Web pages are a far better graphic image transfer medium anyway, and even
>easier now with the 3D Web Ring. As for discussions relating to 3D you just
>can't beat Photo 3D!!!!!
Couldn't agree with you more there Larry about Photo-3D, but just like
there is a place for 3D Web Rings, homepages, email-lists, etc., I
think there is a need and certain advantages to having a 3D newsgroup
if it's there. Advantages of newgroups is no personal web space required
to upload pictures. Further more no byte limitation on downloads as is
the case with certain internet providers. Of course there are disadvantages
also but no system is perfect and each method above has it's place. So
in closing, instead of shooting this recently born newsgroup, lets help
it get off the ground. Remember alt.3d, alt.3d.sirds, alt.3d.misc.
May they rest in peace since they are for all intensive purposes no
longer dealing with stereoscopy. I am pretty sure Marvin and others
here can very well attest to that.
See you all at alt.binaries.pictures.stereo ;-)
Gabriel
