What kind of 3-D process is this?

Last weekend on ARTE (TV channel on French/German culture)
there was a program called "Cartoon Factory (part 2)".
It was a Paramount cartoon showing an elderly couple
watching their wedding pictures through a stereoscope.
When the camera zoomed in to the stereoscope, the scene
changed into anaglyphic colors (red and blue/green),
but actually it was not anaglyphic, but some objects
were colored in red, while others (e. g. background objects)
were blue/green. What kind of technique is this, and what
kind of glasses are used?
In the end, when the Paramount logo appeared (obviously
also in stereo), they claimed that there is a "Patent Pending
for Special Processes used in this Production".
