This is actually more common than you might imagine on cross-border
subscriptions. I know there are other Canadian mags that cost more
on subscription in the US than the (US) cover price. The same is true
for Canadian subscriptions to some US magazines. Usually it's blamed
on increased postal costs.

The odd thing is that this isn't true for *all* magazines (although
I know that some US magazines import in bulk to Canada ... or perhaps
even have a print run done up here .... and then mail locally).

The worst example I've seen is "Nuts & Volts magazine which is:

        $3.50US cover price
        $3.95CDN newstand price

        $19.00US / year subscription (US)
        $50.00US / year subscription (Canada/Mexico) (approx $65CDN)
