At first, I was happy to read this ("Aha! Those Realist engineers really
knew what they were doing!") but when I tried to understand it, it did not
make much sense!
OK, say I want to use the Realist and close-up lenses. I frame and take
the first picture with the left lens. I then translate the camera to a
distance equal to (Realist Interocular) - (Desired Interocular) and take
the second picture with the right lens. The interocular in this situation
is equal to the Desired Interocular.
Why do I need to know where the right lens sits? So that I do not have to
remember the Realist Interocular? And say, yes, I do not remember the
Realist Interocular. Why do I need a mark at the top of the camera
(shutter release) to tell me where the left lens is sitting? Can't I just
see the darn lens?!
>Anally retentive design engineers?
Yeah! That must be it!!!! :-)
