I don't remember the exact date, but yes... a precursor to today's fax
machines was invented quite some time ago. You can read all about it,
and
other interesting invention histories, in the book, "They All
Laughed...
>From Light Bulbs to Lasers: The Fascinating Stories Behind the Great
Inventions That Have Changed Our Lives," by Ira Flatow.
New York, NY: HarperCollins Publishers, Inc., 1992.
Unfortunately, this book included nothing about stereophotography.

Just from memory I think I recall that the fax machine was invented in
France maybe as early as 1869(?) or somewhat later and the first real
demonstration was a successful transmission from Paris to Lyon. Where
does it all this lead to then?
Try this link:
http://www-graphics.stanford.edu/projects/faxing/
and you will discover the ongoing work with a true 3D fax machine that
deliver real hard copy (volumetric) output!
Then, try to figure out when the 3D hard copy fax machine was invented!
I guess that both the 3D holographic fax machine has been invented some
years ago.
This might also be true for the 3D lenticular fax machine too.
