How I spent my vacation ...

Well, it's now a week since I got back from Florida, so I guess it's
time for the trip report. My main stereo-related comments are:

  1) Bringing the Realist was a must, but I found it hard to get
those quick, spontaneous shots at Disneyworld. It's great for
landscapes and times when I can set up a shot, but lousy for
the "Hey, that's neat" impulse-shooting. Maybe I need to get
a fully automatic SLR and use a splitter, or maybe a twin rig.
Either of those would be pretty bulky to haul around the park,
however. I had a backpack with my Realist and a camcorder,
and that was pretty bulky as it was.

  2) I got to see two out of the 3 3d attractions I wanted to:
"Muppet Vision 3D" at the MGM Studios theme park, and "Across
the Sea of Time" at the Ft. Lauderdale Discovery and Science
Museum. The muppet one was cute, although the live action
parts were much more entertaining and watchable than the
        computer generated stuff.

I can't think of enough praise to heap on "Across the Sea
of Time." It was a poignant, moving story told in 3D film,
interspersed with turn-of-the-century stereo views. It was
beautifully done, and proved that 3D can be used effectively
for storytelling without being gimicky. (Ok, there were a
couple of gimicky things, but the visual impact of the film
        did not depend on that.)

P.S. Could someone please tell me again how to get the
View-Master reels for this? The shop at the museum had sold
        out. Thanks.

  3) Having a Realist around my neck for 10 days only elicited two
comments. One was from a guy on the Magic Kingdom train who
wondered what kind of camera it was, but was not a 3D-phile.
Another was from a guy on the boat over to the MGM Studios
park who proceded to pull his Realist out of his waist bag.
We had a nice chat, and I told him all about this list and
gave him the address, etc. If he hasn't lost it, I hope he'll
be subscribing pretty soon. He seemed quite knowledgeable on
        the subject.
