The last time I checked www.fargo.com, the per sheet cost was under $1
US. That is a factory list kit price for x sheets ( can't remember,
something like a 25 sheet kit). The fotofun kit was the same cost per
sheet. However, like most manufacturers, factory list is well above
street price. Since Fargos are not as common as say Epsons, you have to
look around more for a price break.

The Epson Pro gives a pleasing, almost watercolor like print on matte,
but the reccommended paper for top quality is gloss as it is for the
Fargo. I prefer gloss, but then I have no taste. The price is meant to
be an apples to apples comparison since both printers are only purchased
for color output (as opposed to text).

True, you can slither by with an Epson for text ( after all it is faster
and cheaper than a Fargo, but not any other inkjet that I've heard
of!). Inkjet are sort of OK for text, but they are more expensive that
either laser/led or dotmatrix on a per sheet cost and no where near as
permanent.

However, they are quiet and if your needs are modest, the low cost price
is atractive. And they are good enough that you can learn a lot about
printing without investing big bucks and you can turn out images better
than a newspaper and acceptable print copy for xeroxed newsletters.
That is not a bad deal.

Regards,
John
