Well, I finally got an answer from Artec sales :-)

----------------------------------------------------
The optical resolution of SCANROM 4E is 400 dpi, please refer to our web
site: http://www.artecusa.com for more info.

Thanks

IHMO, 400 dpi is not enough for anything but cataloging 35mm and MF
slides/negs.

For a large format (up to 4x5 neg or contact print) or the standard 4x5
or 4x6 print, well, you wouldn't want to go any lower :-)

It's price is attractive and as has been mentioned, it is available as
"noname" from Tiger.

My attitude is sit back and wait for a couple of reviews to establish
quality or until you see some website samples on user selected subjects.

Scanners are tricky little creatures, and the first time arround, you
really benefit from good software and instructions. Indications are
that that may not be the case with this scanner.

Value of foregoing advice $0.01 cents Canadian at close of Toronto
Exchange 19 March 1997. Payment optional.
