I also got a realist format projector before I got a realist format viewer
(any viewer, not just a "good" one). But this was on purpose. It's the
projector that kicked me into that format (I had a pentax adapter + viewer
for about ten years prior) and with local availability of that projector,
I bought it first (from Mike Watters). Actually, I was buying the projector
before the camera as well, only I talked Mike into selling me his Realist 45
at the same time. Going to projection was a BIG advantage (although I think
I may be able to project beamsplitter slides now using a new thingie that
I haven't tried yet, and probably won't until after I move).

The projector is a Compco Triad, which I like a lot (now only if it
projected 7P).
