You're right that there is a similarity, but there *was* a fuss.  The
photo-CD system has special time consuming and expensive processing involved.
True, it's a higher quality system, but it definitely has "fuss".

What I was thinking of was more like taking your digital camera over the the
appliance and hooking it up -- downloading to the appliance, with perhaps
access numbers/decriptions added (whatever).  Instant and quasi-"free".

Storage mechanism could be something like the read/writeable DVD disks
supposedly available "soon".
