There's only "fuss" for *preexisting* photographs (negatives or slides) if
you want to get them scanned onto Photo-CD.

If you use the right prepaid Kodak mailer (or request Photo-CD when you
submit your film to the photofinisher), you get back your negatives or
slides and a Photo-CD instead of prints (or in addition to the slides).
It really is no more difficult than that.

True, it isn't cheap (as much as $1.00 an image), and that I think is
its biggest downfall.
