I'm not sure about the current market (it's been awhile since I've
been to an auction) but for awhile there having 100 year old stereo
viewers sitting on the coffee table was all the rage for decoration
purposes (you weren't supposed to actually USE them). Since I collect
views, not viewers, occasionally I picked up some views at a pretty
reasonable price by approaching viewer buyers and asking to buy any
cards that came along with it (save a couple for decoration purposes).
I'd been collecting views for maybe 10 years before I actually
bought a viewer (and that was only because I had houseguests who couldn't
free view). I looked for a LONG time and finally found a reasonably
non-descript viewer (no manuf name) but which had very good lenses
(clear, minimal chromatic problems, etc). I got that a few years ago
for around $50 in an antique shop.
