No, haven't seen the need. You can buy a machine to do this. Much$$$.

You can get all the mat board you want for free from a frame shop.
Pick a better frame shop that does a lot of archival framing. In matting,
the waste strips are often 3-6 inches wide, and of no use to the framer.
Lots of mat board is tossed that is just the right size for you to cut up
into stereoview size, using a razor knife and fixed straight-edge, or a mat
cutter.
Truly archival mat board is called rag mat, or museum board. It comes
in colors that are earth tones, tans, buff, etc, and now some brighter colors.
Any acid-free board, such as Crescent, should be ok too, and come
in all the colors of the rainbow. The harder choice is which adhesive to use
in mounting the photos. This adhesive debate is currently going on over at
the
Book_Arts-L list. One post states:
GLUE STICKS: The Canadian Conservation Institute (CCI) in 1980's tested
Pritt and UHU brand glue sticks for chemical composition and determined that
they were (AT THAT TIME) "predominatetly (poly) vinyl pyrrolidone with
(poly) vinyl alcohol. Partial water content. Cross-linking may occur with
time." Unlimited additives possible from colorants and other plasticizers.
Remember that these are proprietary products, the recipe for which can
change at any time. These tests were done on pre-colored glue sticks, and
CCI may have done more recent and more thorough testing since then.
I have used UHU glue sticks for 10 years. I see no problems yet. The glue
stick
gives you a few moments to check the alignment of the pair and adjust.
