Realist counter problem

My Stereo Realist has a problem with the exposure counter - it works
ok until about 17, then sometimes it goes backwards one or two 
exposures, then at 20 it just stops.  The film is advancing fine;
it's just the counter.  Can I advance it by hand after 20?  Sorry if
this is a dumb question; i just don't know if hand-advancing the
counter will interfere with the film advancing.

Another question:  can you set the exposure time inbetween settings?
ie, if you want 1/125  exposure time, can you set the dial between 
100 and 150?  Just curious....
