The 716 I bought had a special carrier for projecting 2x2 slide pairs. It
also came with a mounting block made of metal, wood, and plastic.
Essentially, you place a 2x2 mount into it put an aluminum spacer next,
then the other 2x2. You then run a piece of masking tape across the
aluminum and over the outer edge of each 2x2, flip the pair over, and run
another piece of masking tape.  Mounting takes ten or fifteen seconds per
stereo pair. Then, they run thru the carrier just like any other push-thru
slide system, such as you would do with a Realist format stereo slide. 
After a show, just takes a couple of seconds to reverse the mounting
process.

The carrier appears to have been custom built, using the non-stereo 2x2
carrier as a base.

I'll have the machine along at NSA for use during the Tech Workshop if
anyone wants a look.

That VM modification of Gabriel's sounds very interesting!
