After learning that my wife Camilla liked Tru Vue, Dr. George A.
Themelis very logically asks:

> Just curious... How does she like 3Discover?

Clearly, a reasonable question: since the two systems share some
important design strengths, might she like the more modern one as well?

We've only seen DDDiscover once briefly, so this is not a definitive
answer, but... What the discover seems to lack in our eyes are two
important strengths of TruVue:

1) Wonderful period industrial design. Part of the charm of this hobby
to many folks is the fantastic functional and asthetic design of the
products, evocative of a time gone by, of materials no longer in popular
use, of a battery-less purely mechanical functionality, of bakelite and
hand painting and hand-laid typography, etc. By definition, modern stuff
is, well, modern and all too familiar to give any kind of historical
perspective, or one could even argue a fresh perspective.

2) Photography with historical and artistic importance. What was of
topical interest to ordinary people in the 20s, 30s, 40s, etc? What
travel was considered exotic? What sites were considered significant?
How has familiar landscape changes over the years? How did photographers
express contemporary themes in their period photography? What technical
limitations did they have to overcome to ply their trade?

An important part of the hobby for us is dealing with materials which
provide an unique and intimate look at what was past... perhaps so that
we may peek at what is prolog. ;-)
