The fastest gun in the West... :)

A postscript to the cutter thread.

I picked up a Lutes film cutter-- unfortunately, though it was in a stereo
cutter box, the cutter itself would only cut 8p full frame. The seller
graciously offered to reduce the price once this was discovered. With a
serial number of 667, I suspect this was made from parts at the end of the
run (Lutes sold a 5p stereo cutter and a full frame cutter, and this one
had a full frame template someone had further messed with using a file.)
So I studied the mechanism and the brochures with it. The cut function is
controled entirely by the metal template on the front of the machine. Last
night I made a correct 5p and also a 7p replacement template out of brass.
This morning I'm finishing up with a 4p template. It's a stereo film
cutter again, and it only takes a minute or two to change it to any of
the format. When I get time, I plan to replace the whole template business
with a single click stop selector wheel for 4, 5, 7, and 8 perf.

Anyway, it chops film very nicely and accurately at the amazing rate of
two chips per second!

I love it!
