Since I worked on T2-3D, which is an 18 minute
3 screen stereo film extravaganza, I probably
have worked on more stereo film frame by frame
possibly than all the subscribers of P3D put
together.
Now granted I wasnt the actual camera operator
on the film recorder but, I generated quite a bunch of film!
My three shots in Act2 where I animated those
pesky mini hunter killer robots that are chasing
Arnold and Eddie thru a post apocolyptic underground
garage averaged about 10 seconds each of 65 mm film.
So at 24 fps thats 720 frames per eye. Left and right
would bring it to 1440 and when I factor the number
of versions, conservatively at 10 each, that brings my stereo
frame production total to 14400 frames or about 400
rolls of 36.
Think I got you all beat. At least one on one anyway.
It was actually quite an remarkable job. We used
crystal eyes to preview our stereo to see if our
cg models actually fit into the space, and went
behind pillars when they were supposed to. I believe
everyone sees stereo differently and you know who sees
stereo the best? The producers!
During the production I actually thought the higher-ups
at MCA Universal, who were in charge of the final
look, pushed the interoccular too far and put objects
so right up in your face that convergence was out
of the question. Headaches were common during dailies.
But I must say that somehow when I saw the show in
Orlando those overshoots didnt bother me in the
least. The show is truly amazing. All of you must see it.
Happy shooting
