You got them! This list is for you!!!

I have the same experience... Consider binoculars... When looking at
objects far-far away, there is no parallax... so we essentially look at two
identical images. I see much more with binoculars when looking at the
stars with both eyes than when closing one eye. That's why I am not eager
to get a telescope (unless if I convert it to a binocular telescope). Most
microscopes (except for the very inexpensive ones) are binocular (I am not
talking about stereo microscopes) and there must be a reason for that,
beyond comfort.

I have an old book on optics in my library. The author quotes a US Army
study that concludes that binocular optical instruments that provide two
identical views (not stereo) are a waste of money and resources since they
do not provide anything more than the monocular ones. The author disputes
this study and provides some references and his own experience that people
are more observant when both eyes are used. I'll try and find the book and
post a summary.

Sorry, I am not familiar with this phenomenon...
